All rear projection televisions have at least 2 screens - the actual tv screen (called the lenticular) and the screen behind it called the fresnel. (a screen protector goes in front of these two and would be considered a third screen).
The actual tv screen is very fragile and easy to damage. It is not much thicker than a few pieces of paper. A small child, a pet, or even something as simple as bumping into the tv screen can cause MAJOR damage.
